This was my first year attending Essence Festival which is held annually in Nawleans, Louisiana. I had a great time enjoying the music, culture of the city and all the happenings in the Convention Center. My mission was to be cute and comfortable, not to mention stay cool in the Nola heat.
Day 1

I wore a black top with deep splits on the side. They definitely aided in keeping me cool. I got it from Royal Blue Boutique here in Jackson. I wore floral shorts that had dark-colored flowers and even black to match the top.  I got them from   and my locs (sunglasses) came from there too. My bag is Michael Khors. Faux Doc Martens on my feet.

Chillin’. I Bantu knotted my hair and pinned it up.  I added a little purple color using Eye Color Tattoo eye shadow by Maybelline. It came out pretty dope if I do say so myself.

Day 2

This was probably my fave outfit. I love the pattern that lines the crop top tee and the metallic gold skirt complimented it so nicely. I wore fish net socks with my heels. I love the sock and heel combo. I had a mini fashion emergency when I stretched one of the holes of the fish net socks. I wasn’t going to wear them but I really wanted to so I brainstormed to find a way to fix the hole. I detached a piece of loose thread I saw in my top and used it to tie around the stretched hole and the one adjacent to it. This formed another small hole and blended with the others perfectly. I was ecstatic that it worked! Felt like a young MacGyver haha

I wore my hair in a side pony tail. I had lots of volume from the curls the Bantu knots formed. One reason I cut my hair was so I would be able to get more volume with up ‘dos like this. I thought my hair was ka-ute. My boo did too:) It was humid and hot in Nola so the up ‘do was a perfect choice.

Day 3

I spoke at the Hair Channel booth with Essence Hair & Beauty Editor, Deena Campbell. It was really a great experience. I’m mad I was holding the mic like it was a beer or something haha I guess this is kind of an edgy school girl look. I paired a crop top designed with a sheer panel above the breast line with a plaid skater skirt. I added a gold, roped necklace and hoop earrings to give the look more personality.

I decided to wear my hair down that day-pulled all to one side. My curls were poppin!

John and I took a quick pic in the lobby before heading to Bourbon Street. I had to take off those heels and put on some shoes that were more comfy since I knew we would be doing a lot of walking. Clearly, I love my Docs. I need a new pair! I’ve been eyeing a pair of floral ones. Soon…
